Nabisco Gets an F in Grammar

It's obviously a little late, thus the reason for my rant. I went downstairs to get a snack and brought up a box of Wheat Thins. I was reading the back of the box, and this is what I found:
(click on it if you can't read it)
Okay, am I the only one who sees the problem here? Shouldn't both of those sentences say "are" instead of "is"? If I only wanted one of these crackers, I'd say, "Pass me a Wheat Thin," not "Pass me a Wheat Thins." I think I can see what they were trying to do, but it's not flying here. Fellow Dalley English AP classmates, please tell me I'm not crazy! How did this get past marketing?

As a fellow Dalley AP English student, I would say you are absolutely correct in your analysis. Trying to figure out their reasoning for making that work, I conclude: maybe they are trying to use the title, "Wheat Thins," as 1 thing, not suggesting the actual crackers to make plural, but the name (singular). But, it still doesn't make sense. I'm glad I'm not the only one who gets irritated with grammar problems and spelling errors.

I came up with the same conclusion about the title being 1 thing, but it just looks and sounds horrible, and in my opinion is incorrect. I was so tired when I read that box, at first I thought I was seeing things!

I agree!!! I've seen that done before on several things and I've always thought I was the one who was incorrect for wanting it to say "are" instead of "is". It's nice to know some of you out there think it sounds better the other way. Of course, maybe we are all wrong and talk like a bunch a hicks.

Yea, I can see what you're saying. But I think they're referring to "BIG wheat thins" and "Parmasean Wheat Thins" as singular items, not necessarily each individual cracker. So I think it works.

Not sure about the whole grammar thing, I didn't do so well in English since I have part dyslexia. But to me, it sounds like either could work.

By the way, did you win the Pis Posh Girls giveaway? I was checking out some of the links you have on your blog and that giveaway had ended. But is said congrats to Connie.... I hope it is you. That shirt is really cute.

Yeah, it was me! Wild, huh? I am so excited and that's why I made those jean skirts for Eden yesterday. I posted about it on my other blog. Did you enter? They have some really cute stuff on that blog.

You remind me of myself! There has been so many times I'll be looking at the back of a cereal box (or whatever) and just wonder how such amazingly obvious typos got past the editing department. (Maybe there is no editing department...)
