Anybody have any experience with their kids getting chicken pox after having been vaccinated? Let me know...I'm curious. Sorry, you'll have to click on the pictures to really see it well.

Chicken Pox?
My mom called today and told me that Eden has some little spots on her stomach and that she thinks it could be chicken pox. I asked her to send me some pictures and did some research online. Eden has had the chicken pox vaccine, so I didn't know whether or not she could get chicken pox. From what I read, she can. If the child has been vaccinated, she can still get chicken pox, only it's usually a milder case. My mom said that she has a few on her tummy, one or two on her legs, and one on her eyebrow. So I guess we'll see if she's contagious when she gets home. She seems to be acting normal and doing fine though.

Random Happenings
First off, on Sunday, Lexie and Sharrid came over to hang out. They brought Levi an early (a month and a half early!) birthday present. They got him some cute little Converse shoes and little black invisible socks to go with them. Mr. Levi has some big feet, so we will have to exchange them for a 5. Thanks, guys! They are so cute! (Sorry for the horrible pictures.)
Next, Monday was Jonah's first day of school! He goes in the afternoon now, which is when he usually takes a nap, so he might be cutting nap time out from now on. But yesterday I tried to get him to nap before school, and he did, so we'll see how that one goes. All in all, he had a great first and second day. His teacher seems really awesome and is great at keeping communication open with me. We use a notebook to write back and forth to each other. I am so happy that he has a good teacher and that he likes her. (I had an iffy experience with last year's teacher.) Every day he is excited about school and asks if he is going.
He has new bus drivers too and they seem really nice. He leaves at 12:15 in the afternoon and gets back at 3:25. So far, the bus has been really late at dropping him off and has arrived here at 4:10! The bus driver is so sweet- she always feels so bad, but they are trying to get the swing of things with the new routes. It has all been fine.
I have been painting a little more, although I took a break yesterday because I was just too tired! I have been staying up until at least 1 am every night, usually painting, then reading Eclipse for a while. I think it finally was catching up to me. I felt pretty worn down yesterday.
This is what it looks like in more natural light. I still have one or two more coats of blue to do, so that might end up being a little darker.
And in other exciting news, I took a picture of my breakfast the other day because it just looked so pretty and tasty!

Eden Gone + Jonah Starting School = Time To Start a New Project
Okay, so with Eden gone and Jonah starting school Monday, I decided to do some painting. I'm painting Eden's room while she's gone so she won't kill her brain cells on the fumes. I know that the color in the picture looks horrible, but I promise it's not that ugly. It's a combo of bad lighting/camera flash.
The real color is kind of a grass green, not so yellowy. I think it did turn out darker than I expected, but I think it will work out. These are kind of what the real colors look like (the green might be a little lighter):
Anyway, I am doing green on the bottom and a light aqua on the top with a white chair rail to divide it. I started yesterday, and have finished the green, so hopefully I can finish this by the end of next week. I am also supposed to be rereading Eclipse before Saturday, when Breaking Dawn comes out, but that might have to wait now.
Anyway, I am excited to soon have another room painted! I am dying to do the downstairs, but that is going to be a major ordeal, plus I'm not positive what I want.
I need to go to bed. 8 am church is going to kick my butt tomorrow!

Eden's Turn at Grandma's
Hooray! I'm going to Grandma and Grandpa's house!
Grandma came and picked up Tibi at the beginning of this week and she decided that she would take Eden home for two weeks. My mom's awesome friend, Paula, came too and we had a fun time hanging out. We clogged our arteries at Famous Dave's...
Nice open mouthed kiss, Levi! Actually, he might be trying to get a taste of that barbecue sauce!
Such a happy kid!
Then we headed over to the mall and let the kids run around the "play place" while Levi practiced walking. He has been getting pretty good this week, although he still crawls around when he wants to get somewhere fast. He is a fast crawler!
Thanks for coming to stay with us, Tibi! We'll miss you, but I can't say the same for your nasty culinary creations! I still will not try that pepperoni snack! But you should post the recipe on your blog- someone is bound to like it besides you!And we are so glad we got to see Mom and Paula. We had a good time playing Ticket to Ride and hanging out!

Flashback Friday- Baby pictures
After last week's comments, I though that I'd post some younger pictures of myself. I guess that picture does look a little like Eden, although I have never thought we looked alike. Funny. I think that Levi looks the most like me, and I can see myself in Jonah, but I see a lot of Peter in him too. Anyway, here are some pictures of me as a toddler. Tagged Again...By Tibi
10 years ago- I was 18. I was just finishing up my first year at Dixie, was working as a waitress at The Pizza Factory, and since it was summer, I was probably heading home to Logandale as much as possible to spend time with my family. I might have been traveling to Colorado for a huge family reunion. Mom, correct me if I'm wrong there. Overall, it was a very fun and mostly carefree time in my life. I had a lot of friends, a good job, and family close by.
5 years ago- I was preparing for my wedding, which would be on August 23rd. It was a stressful time, but so exciting too. I was trying on dresses and planning decorations, but mostly working at a temp job cold-calling for University of Phoenix, a job I despised and eventually quit over the phone while I was in California with Peter getting our marriage license.
5 months ago- It was February. I had just spent some time in Logandale with my family and pretty much was hanging out a lot with the three kids, trying to maintain a home and my sanity. Not much different from the present.
5 things on my to-do-list-
1. Call a few people (church stuff)
2. Buy Eden some new shoes.
3. Finish New Moon and Eclipse (for the 2nd time) before Breaking Dawn comes out.
4. Go to Back-to-School night for Jonah's preschool.
5. Feed the missionaries this week.
5 snacks I enjoy-
1. Popsicles
2. fruit snacks
3. pretzels
4. red vines
5. Swedish fish
5 things I'd do if I were a billionaire-
1. Pay tithing (that shouldn't count as one of my five things) and pay off all of our bills.
2. Buy a safe commuter car for Peter and a Denali for my mom.
3. Get our year's supply of food and water.
4. Buy a house with one more bedroom, plus an office, and a HUGE storage area for my food storage.
5. Buy a beach house so Peter can teach our kids to surf in the summer.
5 habits I have-
1. Nagging.
2. Worrying.
3. Eating when I'm bored.
4. Buying stuff I don't really need cause it's a good deal.
5. Waiting until 10:30am or later to eat breakfast.
5 places I've lived before- (nothing exotic this time)

Flashback Friday- preschool
My cousin-in-law, Dana, does this on her blog and I thought that I would copy her and start it up here. It will give me a chance to blog about days gone by with some structure instead of randomly reminiscing about the past. Plus, I'm sure you all are dying to see some pictures of me from my 8-year stretch of an "ugly phase." I'm warning you, I had a bad one!
To make myself feel a little better about posting some of the ugliest moments of my life, I'm starting today with a cute one! Jonah is going to be starting preschool again in a week, so I decided to post my own preschool picture. Here I am in preschool. I must have just turned four, because I was four when I started Kindergarten and turned five in October.
All I remember about preschool was playtime, snack time, and my teacher. I can't remember her name now, but she had long, straight blonde hair that went past her rear. I always thought that was cool. I do remember a few friends, too. It kind of freaks me out knowing that Jonah is at the point where he will start remembering things!
I have been reminding Jonah that school is staring up again, and I think he's a little nervous. I know he'll get the hang of it as soon as he starts going again.

No More Russian Mission Calls From America
My mom sent me an email the other day with a link to this article from Desert News. Basically, it states that the missionaries for the Church who have been called to serve in Russia will have to be reassigned due to new Russian visa restrictions and that there will be no further mission calls of Northern Americans to Russia.
I was devastated. I feel horrible that they are having problems getting missionaries in. Actually, they are fine getting in, but they can only stay for 90 days, then must leave for 90 days, if I read it right. I just feel so sad that it will be impossible (for the time being) for any friends or members of my family to have the experience of serving there. I feel bad that road blocks of getting into Russia are resurfacing. The Church has really struggled to become a registered religion, to become legal, and now this. I just feel really sad about it; there isn't really another word for it.
Peter helped me see the silver lining here though. Maybe it will be good for the church growth to have more locally called missionaries there. Maybe they understand well enough how the church runs and now they will surely get the opportunity to establish the church themselves. Hopefully it won't halt the work there; they will have a less-American crowd and maybe the Russian people will be more accepting of a message brought by missionaries from their own country or surrounding areas. I am interested to see what happens.
In the meantime, missionaries who are already in Russia will remain there for the duration of their missions. There is an Elder from Logandale serving in my mission, Russia Yekaterinburg. I wonder how or if this will affect his mission. I'm sure he'll be making some trips to Finland.
When I was in Russia, our visas lasted a whole year, so we only had to go to Finland once. Our group (about 8 Elders and myself) had some trouble and were not allowed back into Russia for a whole week. It seemed like a vacation because we weren't allowed to proselyte or do service of any kind. They didn't want us making waves with the Russian government, so we had to just sit around most of the time. I can't even imagine being banished from my mission for 90 days! No wonder the church just decided to give up on sending North American missionaries to Russia. The travel expenses alone must be costing them a fortune.
Anyway, I still have mixed feelings about this. I do have faith that the work will continue there, it is just hard to hear news like this. I know that the Church in Russia has been struggling to get a Stake since I was there, and I don't think they have one yet. I'm sure things like this will only make it harder, but the members there are strong and have handled opposition before. Hopefully we'll be able to get American missionaries back in there soon.

FHE at the Park
We took the kids to the park for FHE last night and got some funny pictures. Tibi is posting some pictures too. I think for a while our blogs will be pretty similar!

Loud Lunch
Sharrid and Lexie and the kids came over yesterday to hang out for a while. I took some video of the kids eating lunch. I think that this was the loudest meal we have ever had. The kids were obviously excited to see each other and made a huge racket. It was pretty funny. Jonah was working on his vibrato a little. I'm posting all three videos, but in separate posts. It wasn't working before with them all in the same post. Loud, huh?

More Hair Pictures

I don't think that you can see the real color from the pictures I have put on here. I'll just say that I got some lowlights put in so that it wouldn't look like just one color. I really like it. I actually like it both ways.

4th of July Vacation
This year I was able to take the kids up to Panguitch Lake and spend a week and a half at my grandparents' cabin. There is always a huge group for the 4th of July, and I was dying to see some of my family members that I haven't seen for quite a while. Peter wasn't able to go, but he ended up taking a short trip of his own out to Oceanside to go surfing with his brother.Sorry about all of the pictures, but we did a lot of fun things and I took a lot of pictures at the cabin. I got to see some cousins that I hadn't seen in a long time and who my kids met for the first time.

We all got a chance to try slacklining again. Kira and Michaela are really good, as you can see.
Here is a picture of me falling off as soon as I got on. Yeah, I am not good at slacklining (yet)!
The kids really liked the 4-wheelers and went on tons of rides.

We had lots of times to play games and just hang around. Levi learned to clap his hands while we were at the cabin, and he is getting pretty good at standing. He's still too chicken to take a few steps...but he sure is a happy guy!
And we got some good quality time with Grandpa and Grandma.
The kids loved being outside and exploring.
We ate some yummy food and made homemade ice cream for the 4th.
Kira and Michaela had to take their traditional "cabin pictures" with Grandpa Packard's old treasures.
I joined in too.
After most of the family left, our good friends, the Chappells, came up. They brought Rock Band and we had a fun time playing. It was really fun once we got the moms playing!
After much fun and relaxing, we had to get going. Eden screamed a lot of the way down the mountain because her ears kept popping.

The kids finally fell asleep for the last half of our trip back to Logandale. We were glad to be back to Grandpa and Grandma's house and to get some rest for the night before we headed home the next day.

The next day I had a hair appointment, and then we headed for home. We had a pretty easy drive until we passed Kingman. We ran right into a huge thunderstorm that scared the crap out of us all. We could barely see the road and it was really slick. We started hydroplaning and then we decided we'd better pull over for a while. We were on that scary road from Vegas to Phoenix that is only a 2-lane highway. We found a good turnout and saw that 2 other cars had the same idea as we did. We waited for about 15 minutes with lightning all around us and thunder claps literally shaking the car. We were okay once we pulled over though. The kids were fine and just watched a movie through it all. We were so happy to get back in one piece and I know it sounds cliche, but our prayers were heard!
It has been good to be home and be together as a family again. We brought Tibi home with us and she will stay for a few weeks. The kids love her and she is a big help. We are excited to have her here. Plus, that means that my mom and Paula will get to come pick her up and visit too!
Levi is happy to be home, but misses his grandparents!
