I was reading Parents magazine the other day, when I came upon a little blip about product recalls. I noticed that one of the items listed was a Jardine crib, sold from 2002 to 2008. We have a Jardine crib, and we got it in 2004. The reason for the recall? "...Because the slats and spindles can break, posing an entrapment and strangulation hazard." Um, a slat broke on our crib a few months ago. But being the ghetto white trash that we are, we just duct taped it for the time being. I guess I could have called the crib company and complained, but I hate doing that. Besides, we have had this crib for 4 years. I didn't even know if our crib would last that long, the way our kids are with furniture.

I looked at the picture of the crib in the magazine. It was the exact same crib we have. I called the phone number, and sure enough, ours was recalled. I was informed that we will be receiving a package in the mail with instructions on dissembling the crib, and a prepaid-postage envelope in which we are to put a few pieces of the crib and the sticker on the back of the crib. We will then receive a voucher in the mail to take to Babies R Us and get a new crib (for free).
I have mixed emotions because I really have loved our crib. All things considered, it has been a great purchase for us (although my parents bought it for us). It has lasted us for 4 years, through 3 moves, and through almost 3 kids. It is very sturdy (except for that one slat), and I love the design.

On the other hand, we got some great use out of that crib, and now we can get a new one for free to hopefully last us the rest of our baby years. I guess it is a blessing in disguise.
In other news, Eden is drinking out of a cup finally! I don't really want to go into the entire history because this post will end up being very long. Let's just say that my kids have a problem with open cups.
Peter got sick of the situation the other day and his creative juices began flowing. I guess the engineer in him was taking over, because he invented this handy little cup that is working for Eden. He just cut a hole in the lid of a restaurant kiddie straw cup. She has been using this since yesterday, and doing really well. Thanks goodness!

We haven't tried the cup with Jonah yet because he has been at school, and I want to be able to devote some time to it. I'll update if anything exciting happens with Jonah.

I like your crib, it is really cute, I would totally get the new crib though. I am sure you will be able to get another cute one. And you can shop in person at the babies r us for the new crib, which is cool. We aren't lucky enough to have one here. Any way. Congrats to Eden. I know kids love to drink out of cups like a big kid. Jade can drink out of a cup too, but she almost always wants a straw! Silly girl.
Yeah for the new crib. But I know how you feel about giving up the old one... with the memories and stuff.
While the boys were getting the hang of open cups they got water until they could show me that they could drink out a cup properly with out spilling it all over or making a mess. It took two days because they missed the juice and milk. Threating works wonders for me ;)
Connie, we have the same crib (dif color, and purchased in 07). We e-mailed Jardine to sign up for the recall and they sent the package to us VIA express UPS with the prepaid envelope and paperwork. The bummer is that between the time that you return the hardware and the time you get the voucher for Babies-R-Us, you are cribless. We also really like our crib and did not want to get rid of it. But Carson is one big, strong kid and we did not want to risk it. Hopefully they still have the same crib in stock. We just love it.
Oh that sucks! I really like that crib too! Yay for Eden! Maybe now that Eden can drink out of a cup, Jonah might wanna try too!
I know what you mean. Recalls can be a blessing and a curse. It's such a pain with something as big as a crib, but a least you get a new crib...just because!
We have the exact same crib! Or had. And are in the throes of crib-recall nightmare. We got a voucher for $220. The only cribs that are in stock for the last 3 months? $350+. And they keep discontinuing cribs left and right. Good thing Ainsley's tiny because she's going to be in the cradle for a long-a time.
