Our First Harvest!

Peter and I planted a small garden last September. It was our first garden and we started small. I learned about square foot gardening at Enrichment and thought that it was a great solution for me, having such a small yard to work with, and not having a huge family to feed. We decided to try it and plant lettuce, carrots, green onions, spinach, and cilantro.
Here you can see our first harvest! We didn't really know what we were doing, so we're lucky that we got this much! The green onions and spinach didn't take, but we'll try again. It might have been too late for the green onions.

We replanted green onions, basil, and strawberries and are keeping the cilantro for a while longer. I'd also like to try brocolli or cantelope. As you can see, our cilantro is doing really well*. Time to make some homemade salsa!

*Disclaimer: If you are a gardener, you might think our garden is sad and pathetic. If a cilantro plant isn't supposed to look like that, don't make fun of us. We probably put too many seeds or something. We are trying!

Kudos to you! Well done, indeed! We did a garden two summers ago. Our tomatoes were so sad. And our carrots too! I'm impressed! Yours look very hearty!

You guys are awesome, we want to do a garden when we put our backyard in. I'm kind of intimidated by them, but with Sharrid's help and a little research on AZ growing, we'll be fine...someday...

YEAH!!! We just did our first Square Foot Garden last year and LOVED it! It's taking us awhile to figure out gardening in Utah - it's so different than California. And I bet it's WAY different in Arizona. Can you even garden in the summer, or is it too hot? I totally have never thought about that. I think you did awesome for your first try!

Fun! We want to start a garden here in Erie, but we have to wait awhile. The growing season is not nearly as long here. Someone told me the other day that it could even snow in JUNE!!! I think your cilantro looks delicious! I love cilantro!

Gardening takes a lot of work depending on where you are at. Your produce looks great don't give up on it though it takes alot of experimenting to find out what will work the best in your climate and in each season that you have. Keep up the good work.

Great job! I'm not a gardener either and still haven't been motivated to even try... maybe in another year or two.... I have a really good salsa recipe if you want it and it takes LOTS of cilantro!

Congrats on your harvest. It does look yummy. Good job. How exciting. I know Alan & Glenna have a large garden in their backyard. I think one of the reasons I haven't even tried to plant a garden in our backyard, is because I never thought we were going to live in this house for that long. Oh well. I should try to garden sometime. Maybe next year.
